Thank you really hits hard at odd times and I found Substack because I was off fb since the Olympics and many writers made my days with dad better. I would drive as frequently as I could to be with him on weekends.
He was ready. He got his affairs in order. He had his mind until the last week ( morphine and Ativan) . Hospice was wonderful. While it’s gut wrenching losing your last parent I was lucky to be able to spend the past couple years with him. He had wonderful caregivers. He was going to be 88 at the end of the month. He doesn’t have to deal with T 2 either. It would have enraged him.
I’m sorry for your loss. No matter how long ago., my mom ( divorced parents) went into hospice January 2020 and passed June 2020. During covid there was less help ( obviously) available. My sister and I switched days. Me 3 her 4 as I was 2 hours away. The weird thing is I moved back to Maine and the drive to mass was the same . The hospice with my dad and home care was fantastic.
I’m sorry for your loss.
I lost my dad a week ago Thursday and too many friends.
My heart goes out to you.
Oh really sorry to hear that Mary, my heart goes out to you

Yes, it is a relief in some ways and yet still very sad. My mom passed at the same age as your Dad in hospice
