Hi, Geoff! This question of friendship is always on my mind the older I get. As a child, I made a friend of the neighbor's granddaughter. That friendship lasted for 75 years, (we bonded at the ages of 4 and 5 respectively). All these years later it was politics that severed the ties. Somehow abortion came up in a phone conversation. She said she was for a federal law against. I said I would never have had one, but it was not up to me or the government to tell a woman what she could or could not do with her body. She called me a baby killer and hung up to phone. That was five years ago. We haven't spoken since even though I wrote her a letter of truce. I still miss her.

That is beyond sad Jan, i would miss her also... It's a shame and very sad that she has allowed an issue to become more important than your friendship and your history.
