To the Young Girl Hiding in the Closet
Written after a conversation with a client and friend.
Through the crack in the closet door, shines only the smallest shaft of light.
To Esmeralda, the Young Girl Hiding in the Closet,
I can see the hem of your green dress as you hide in the closet, afraid to come out. It is no longer midnight and the sun has long since risen. Still the house itself, indeed the world seems to frighten you so.
I need you to come out of the closet though.
There is no life to be found floundering in the dark, terrified of the world and the monsters in it.
Every day in the closet is another day lost forever.
I know you are afraid
but I do not know
why, you hide,
for although the world is
besieged by the devil.
INSIDE,
you are still young,
you are still strong
you are still brave
Come out
Esmeralda,
the sun is bright,
the house is safe
and you still have
time to play.
Many feel your fear, many also want to hide, but I need you to step out from the shadows young girl. I need you to keep on exploring the world, it’s oceans are wide.
You will find people who are strong, there are many who are brave. There are those who slay the orange monsters, every single day.
Stand up. Push open the door. Stand in the brightest of light in that beautiful green dress. Fear not.
There is spirit in you.
There is fight in your eyes, We can see it now Esmeralda. You too have the power to slay dragons, it’s right there inside of you.
Never hide. Never acquiesce to the monster and the ideas of them.
You were not made to hide in a closet.
Instead.
You were created to be the light that shines in the darkness, that pierces it’s way into the shadows, where other little girls are hiding, also afraid of monsters.
Be the light, Esmeralda.
Be the light.
Step out of the darkness.
