Anyone can change…
If they truly want to.
And your change doesn’t have to be inspired by misery, fear, or immense pain
A segment of your life doesn’t have to be absolute shit for you to bottom out and grow massively
Of course, pain can inspire growth
Some of you know my story. 18 months ago, I took my then 12-year-old son Gabriel fishing, and after a 300-yard walk across some very small rocks, I thought I was going to have a coronary at 48.
It was frightening, uncomfortable, and scary to be sitting on a rock, a million miles from help, short of breath, and wondering if this was the last part of my life.
That pain inspired bold action. I drove to the gym closest to my house the next day and hired the first personal trainer that I met.
This could not be my future.
Sitting on that rock was my “fuck no” moment… a low, dark moment that forced me to change.
For many people, these rock bottom moments are transformational; it can happen in any area of your life, financially broke, bankrupt, divorced, arrested, embarrassed, exposed, isolated, lonely, fired, not chosen, rejected…
Any tough moment is always an invitation to transform and grow…
But there are other moments also, stronger choices, even more powerful motivating forces that the dark night of the soul, having a coronary on a rock type experiences…
We should not have to rely on “failure” as a motivation.
Or we”ll only grow so high before banging our heads on an imaginary ceiling.
We’ll only see so much success.
We will fight to stay safe and comfortable without really stretching fully into the big, bold, beautiful lives.
If you require life to be shit to grow, then most likely you will manifest calamity to grow and be stuck on a rollercoaster type cycle of ups and downs…
We can do better…
We can create a world of perpetual growth inside of ourselves and around us…
This is actually what I’ve been building with our 3-word goals system and the entire Sphere ecosystem…
Internal and external transformation…
A life where you are constantly stretching and growing from this day forward…
It’s not exhausting (that is the lie), it is incredibly life-giving, satisfying, and freeing to always be expanding, to be finding new goals, new challenges, brave new experiences…
Don’t die too early.
Do not settle for the comfort of the couch.
There is so much to explore still.
Challenges are put in front of you, waiting for you to discover them.
Maybe you think I am mad, maybe you think I am crazy…
But perhaps I am just leaning into courage…
Perhaps it is true wisdom.
I have one life, and so do you?
Let’s commit to fully living every single day.
Let’s dedicate ourselves to keep on growing and giving to others until our very last breath.
I do not accept this notion that you were created or designed to live an average life…
It’s a system that suppresses you.
It’s a culture that tells you, forces you, and encourages you, just to be another cog in the wheel.
It’s a form of dark apathy that tells you that you are just another short, unimportant breath in the entire span of human history.
This is totally unacceptable to me
I refuse to believe that any human life, yours in particular, as you are reading these words, is unimportant.
The lie that you are hearing right now… is that some success is enough success.
The lie is that you are already transformed.
The deceit is that you have grown enough.
I’m calling this bullshit.
That is the dark face of death talking…
Comfort telling you to stop growing…
You shall always be growing.
Constantly transforming.
Always be learning, discovering, and rediscovering new things.
There is more for you… always… I promise.
