Shitty things happen to everyone.
Life is a contact sport.
You are going to suffer breaks, bruises and contusions.
The average person gets their heart broken multiple times.
Extraordinary people suffer heartache, rejection and wounds, a million times more.
The sooner you willingly and wonderfully embrace the fact that your life is going to be filled with pain… the faster you will grow.
This isn’t a sad thing.
It’s a joyful thing to live a big, bold adventurous life.
When I was a kid I played the dangerous and violent sport of rugby.
I loved it so much.
After the game, I would examine my body looking for two things:
dirt
bruises
If I wasn’t filthy and I had no “war wounds” I was deeply disappointed.
The absence of “these signs” meant only one thing, I hadn’t really played, I had mostly watched, I had not got involved in the battle.
It’s the same in adult life.
It’s these two signs that will define the level of success that you and I reach in our entrepreneurial journeys.
Mud
You cannot expect to play without falling down. You can’t run around the puddles and avoid the swampy parts of the field. Your commitment needs to be wholehearted. Don’t try and maintain a pristine appearance and a perfect self image. It will mean you have not really played.
Injuries
You are going to get hurt. You are not the only person on the field trying to win. There are some who will try to stop you. Your injuries are your stripes, they are the proof of your commitment to winning and playing your best. Never give up.
Personally, I have learned (and I am still learning) to allow the tough stuff in life to shape me and force growth.
Every disappointment, every challenge, each mistake in an incredible opportunity to grow and get stronger.
When things go wrong now, I quickly get excited, this an opportunity to get better at what I do!
Always ask, how can I learn? How can this inspire growth? What is life teaching me?
This life of ours is an amazing opportunity for growth!
Let’s seize it with both hands.
Much love
